Congratulations to Liliana Pasalic for being named a finalist in The 2023 National Capital Art Prize! Her breathtaking painting, titled ‘Old Masters and New Dilettantes,’ has earned her this well-deserved recognition.
Drawing inspiration from John Constable’s figurative landscape painting, Liliana brilliantly combines elements of “old” and “new” in her artwork. Through the addition of geometric abstraction, non-representative painting, collage, embroidery, and faux masking tape, she explores the fascinating question of how the old masters would perceive contemporary painting and the innovative use of mediums if they were alive today.
The award night will take place on September 14, with the exhibition open to the public from September 16.
