The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) will host the first major Southern Hemisphere survey of Julie Mehretu, an acclaimed contemporary artist known for her large-scale abstract paintings. Part of the Sydney International Art Series 2024–2025, this exhibition will feature over 80 works spanning Mehretu’s career from 1995 to the present, including new pieces created specifically for the Sydney show.
Mehretu’s work is recognised for its dynamic layering of forms, drawing inspiration from global narratives, urban development, migration, and climate change. Her monumental canvases not only reference art and architectural history but also reflect urgent contemporary issues in an abstract yet powerful manner. This exhibition presents a rare opportunity for art enthusiasts and collectors to experience Mehretu’s visually compelling and socially engaged artistry.
